Botox®

Botox is a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. For more than a decade, ophthalmologists have used Botox to treat blepharospasm (abnormal blinking of the eyelids). Doctors have also used Botox for many years to safely reduce the appearance of frown lines and facial wrinkles.

The movements and contractions of facial muscles are controlled by signals from our brain. Botox keeps the muscles from responding to the signals. Consequently, the muscles relax, and the skin remains smooth and unwrinkled. Botox is injected into the specific muscle that is causing facial lines and wrinkles using a very fine needle. Treatment is effective, safe and quick. It takes approximately 10 minutes. Pain is similar to a pin prick. No anesthetic is necessary. After treatment, patients can immediately resume their normal activities.
