Acne Treatments
Acne is an annoying skin condition that affects people of every age, gender, and race. Few skin conditions are as bothersome and disturbing as acne. The scientific name for the condition is acne vulgaris because acne usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back.
Patients with moderately severe acne can benefit from a new approach called photodynamic therapy. Two options are Harmony® Advanced Fluorescence Technology system or the BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator with Levulan®. We can combine either the Harmony® Advanced Fluorescence Technology system or the BLU-U® Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy Illuminator with Levulan® to enhance the results of both systems.
AFT/Levulan® Photorejuvenation
AFT/Levulan® Photorejuvenation is a non-invasive, non-ablative intense pulsed light which simultaneously treats pigmented and vascular lesions in the epidermis and dermis, as well as improves the skin tone and texture. The Harmony® Advanced Fluorescence Technology system will improve and/or remove “brown” or “red” areas. Improvement can be seen after one treatment, but usually a series is required to get the desired results. Remember that sun damage takes years to appear and it will take time to reverse this damage. “It’s like peeling an onion”.
Blu-U® Acne Treatment
Blu-U® light is available for the treatment of acne. They decrease inflammation, shrink sebaceous glands and kill bacteria. They are less effective than photodynamic therapy but do not produce a “sunburn” reaction. Both photodynamic therapy and lasers can be utilized in conjunction with other topical and oral acne therapies.

Botox® Cosmetics
BOTOX® Cosmetics is a highly purified toxin derived from the bacteria clostridium botulinum. It works by blocking receptor sites on muscles and preventing acetyl choline, released by nerves, from stimulating muscles to contract.
BOTOX® Cosmetics is utilized in the skin in very small and safe amounts to selectively block the function of certain facial muscles that are involved in wrinkle formation. Best locations to inject BOTOX® Cosmetics are frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet lines.
The first treatment involves injection into strong thick muscle and therefore usually only lasts three to four months. At subsequent sessions the muscle is smaller and weaker (since it has not been used) and the injections can last five to six months. The BOTOX® Cosmetics action also wears off gradually so there is ample time to reschedule another appointment.

Collagen
Collagen, a soft-tissue filler, can help fill in lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. Hylaform

Permanent Makeup
Permanent cosmetic makeup is a state of the art form of cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as "micropigmentation", "micropigment implantation" or "dermagraphics". The cosmetic implantation technique deposits tiny individual implants of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin.
Permanent cosmetics procedures are performed using various machines and methods, including the traditional (or specialized) tattoo or coil machines, the pen or rotary machine and the non-machine or hand method. These procedures are a process which includes the initial consultation, initial application of pigment, and usually one or two follow up visits for adjusting the shape and color or density of the pigment.
Radiesse
Radiesse FN is a new injectable product for lip enlargement and filling of folds and lines. The advantage of this product is the potential for a long lasting effect.
Radiesse FN consists of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in gel (carboxymethycellulose). Because calcium hydroxylapatite is a normal constituent of bone, it should not elicit a chronic inflammatory or immune response. Additionally, the gel carrier doesn’t require allergy testing such as required with other injectable fillers.
Calcium hydroxylapatite has been used in humans for a long time in prosthetic implants in dental, facial, and orthopedic surgery. Animal studies and use of the injectable product in vocal cords and bladder neck areas have shown that the product remains soft without new bone formation when injected into oft tissue. The longest term studies come from Italy and suggest that Radiesse FN shows promise as a new agent for facial contouring with no serious side effects and reasonable efficacy and durability.
Restylane
Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. As you get older, your face loses its shape. Restylane simply restores that fullness and provides a smoother contour to the face.
Restylane is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is crystal-clear gel called NASHA, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.
Unlike other hyaluronic acid-based products, such as those made from rooster combs, only Restylane is non-animal-based. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.
Restylane is completely degraded, leaving absolutely no traces of the injected material in the body.
Sclerotherapy
Millions of women are bothered by spider veins - those small yet unsightly clusters of red, blue or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. In fact, it's estimated that at least half of the adult female population is plagued with this common cosmetic problem.
Today, many plastic surgeons are treating spider veins with sclerotherapy. In this rather simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. The procedure may also remedy the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins, including aching, burning, swelling and night cramps.

Spider Veins
Spider veins known in the medical world as telangiectasias or sunburst varicosities - are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Although these super-fine veins are connected with the larger venous system, they are not an essential part of it.
A number of factors contribute to the development of spider veins, including heredity, pregnancy and other events that cause hormonal shifts, weight gain, occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing, and the use of certain medications.
Today, many dermatologists are treating spider veins with sclerotherapy. In this rather simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view.
Sun Spots
Your physician can usually diagnose sun/age spots based on their appearance. It is very important to distinguish sun/age spots from melanoma (a form of skin cancer) which can look similar. Let your doctor know if a particular age spot is growing or changing. Sometimes, your physician may need to perform a biopsy to rule out skin cancer.
The best treatment for age spots is prevention. The key to preventing age spots is sun avoidance and daily sunscreen use. For example, you won’t find age spots on your inner thigh because of minimal or no sun exposure. However, for most of us, it is too late for prevention, and there are a number of treatment options available. Treatment options include FotoFacial/IPL treatments, laser resurfacing, bleaching creams and chemical peels.
Tattoo Removal
There are various methods available to remove tattoos but they are not always successful:
Laser treatment is the most common method. Different wavelengths of light are used for different pigments. The laser beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by the ink. This causes the ink to break down so that it can be removed by the body's lymphatic system.
Dermabrasion literally rubs the tattooed skin away with an abrasive tool, over a series of treatments. If the tattoo is deep, a skin graft may also be necessary to 'level out' the surface of the skin.
